Sat, July 31st from 10am-4pm. Edelstein, IL at the Park Lillian will be 3 years old in November and was diagnosed with CF at 20 months of age. We have a lot of great things for our silent auction including over 15 themed baskets, Peoria chiefs tickets, Chicago Cubs tickets, golf passes, and lots more!! We will have activities for children including games with prizes, inflatable bouncer, inflatable slide, face painting, and more. We are also going to have a bake sale.

81st Annual Summer Festa Picnic Sunday, August 08, 2010
The Italian-American Society of Peoria will host its 81st annual Summer Festa picnic from noon to 7 p.m. at Hickory Grove Park, located off Illinois Route 40. There will be Italian cuisine, beverages, a gift booth, musical entertainment, childrens activities, a spaghetti-eating contest and a bocce ball tournament. Admission is $2 for adults and free for children younger than 12.

Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society: Lance Zedric Tuesday, August 10, 2010
On Tuesday August 10, guest speaker for the Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society will be Lance Zedric, author of The Silent Warriors of World War II: The Alamo Scouts behind Japanese Lines. He will present the story of the 6th Army’s elite reconnaissance and raider unit which performed 106 missions behind Japanese lines during World War II, both in New Guinea and the Philippines, including two daring POW camp liberations without losing a man either by capture or death. His work was the moving force for a History Channel documentary on the Alamo Scouts. Lance Zedric, a native of Canton, IL, is an author, educator, editor, and military consultant. He has authored or co-authored six books and has had numerous articles published in popular magazines and scholarly journals. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history, and is a graduate of the US Army Intelligence School. The meeting, which is open to the general public, will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at the Society’s Erlicher Library, located at 719 N Eleventh St, Pekin, IL. The program will begin promptly at 7:00 PM, with a business meeting immediately following. The building is handicapped accessible with ample parking available.

“Occupation Murder” Auditions Saturday, August 14, 2010
Auditions for the Peoria Park District’s Teen Mystery Dinner Theatre production of “Occupation Murder”, directed by Jimmy Ulrich, will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Owens Center. Participants age 14 to 18 should prepare a one minute monologue and wear comfortable clothing for movement and improvisation. There is no fee to audition. Breast Cancer Benefit for Heather Grimm Sunday, August 15, 2010
On Sunday, August 15th, there will be a breast cancer benefit for Heather Grimm. It will be held from 2-8 PM at The Whammy Bar, 500 Main St, Peoria. There will be a $10 donation at the door. A pasta dinner will be served for a $5 donation. Heather has been unable to work due to surgery and chemotherapy. A portion of the proceeds will go to Illinois CancerCare, who is providing her care.
There will be raffles, a silent auction, bags tournament, and live music. Musical acts include: Nate Peck and Cherry Whitaker, Creek Road Ramblers, The Player’s Club, Rumour Hazzit, and Mike and Magoo of Hello Dave.

This is a 2-day event held at the Pekin Park Lagoon and Pavillion. Setup as 2-person "buddy teams" with our main focus directed towards the child 2-13 years of age. The older fishing "buddy" can be anyone age 14 and over. The older person is supposed to help to mentor the younger fisherman, not do all the fishing! Everything is provided ALL FREE of charge to each particiant!
Friday, July 22 from 4-8pm consist of the educational stations: 1.Safety, Ethics, Rules & Regulations of Fishing 2.Fishing Equipment, Rods, Reels, Lures & Bait 3. Fish Identification and the Aquatic Environment run by the IDNR 4. Knot Tying 5. Casting 6. Littering the Waterways run by Living Lands & Waters 7. Pond Critters Each participant is required to go through each of the stations at their leisure, takes approximately 1-2 hours. Once completed, they will receive their own "LCK Fishing License", a goodie bag filled with various coupons from local businesses, and a LCK T-shirt. Participation Friday night also makes the participants eligible for prizes to be given away on Saturday.

Saturday, July 23 from 8-11am is the actual fishing derby. Continental breakfast will be provided on Saturday. Prizes and trophies will also be handed out on Saturday. Trophies will be awarded for Smallest Fish, Largest Fish, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place (to be determined by combined total weight of fish caught), Oldest Fsiherman, and Big Oscar (a "special" tagged fish in the lagoon). Prior to this event, we have stocked the lagoon to better everyone's odds of catching "the Big One!" In addition, we even provide Bait on Saturday. Everything is provided ALL FREE of charge to each particiant! There is a Crazy Hat contest during all this on Saturday as well - just one more fun thing for the kids to participate in if they like!
