We couldn’t ask for a better or bigger matchup as our main Super Nutrition Red Zone Game of the Week 4. It’s the top-ranked, Class 5A, Washington Panthers hosting the second-ranked, Class 5A, Dunlap Eagles, kicking off at 7:30 Friday night. Washington, Dunlap, Metamora and Morton are all off to 3-0 starts!
These two teams met in an all-Mid Illini Class 5A state high school football semifinal last year in Washington, where Dunlap prevailed for the second time in the 2017 season over their talented rivals, the Panthers. And these two power programs could very well meet again this fall in the playoffs. Former Illini and Farmington starting lineman Tony Johnson and I will be at Babcook Field for the midseason showdown.
We hoping for a couple close, featured games again this week, just like last week. Dunap beat Pekin, 17-12, last Friday on our main game of the week (pic below), while state-ranked Peoria High was upset at home by previously winless Rock Island, 27-22.
Tom Meredith will be at the North Peoria rivalry game between Notre Dame and Richwoods in the Big 12. Notre Dame broke through for its first win last Friday over Champaign Central, while Richwoods fell at Champaign Centennial. Both the Irish and Knights are 1-2.
