John Mellencamp returns to Peoria for the first time since the summer of 2015 when he plays the Peoria Civic Center on February 15! The Midwest icon releases a new album, “Other People’s Stuff,” on November 16 and will perform his The John Mellencamp Show to support it.
Mellencamp has always been one of “my guys,” since getting an early exposure to his first couple albums from my suite mates at Western Michigan University in ’80-’81, when he had maybe one song (“I Need a Lover”) airing on rock radio. I, in turn, turned my hometown Detroit friends onto Cougar, as he was known then. We’ve been huge fans ever since. Mellencamp was the first singer I ever saw wade into the crowded hill at Pine Knob (outdoor) Music Theater in Clarkston, MI, during a song and not miss a beat while singin’ and struttin’.
His nearly 40-year career has produced so much great music, earning him entry in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame this past summer. He also helped found the annual Farm Aid benefit concert in 1985.
