Tomorrow, July 29, marks 50 years since the Doors hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “Light My Fire,” one of the biggest songs ever and the band’s best-selling single of all time. To commemorates the 50th anniversary there are two new releases available today: a limited edition reproduction of the original 7” single that was released in Japan in 1967, with you can enter to win a copy for FREE using your Classic Rewards here at 955glo.com, the other release is a new digital and streaming maxi-single with three different versions of “Light My Fire.”
To celebrate tomorrow at 6:29pm we will play the tune for you here at 95.5 and you’re encouraged to share your memory of the song with the hashtag #lightmyfire
Guitarist Robby Krieger wrote most of “Light My Fire,” which also happened to be the first song he ever wrote. The track – along with the Doors’ first single “Break On Through (To The Other Side)” – helped fuel the band’s early success and made stars of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Krieger. Below you can watch a short two and a half minute video discussing the making of the song. Check it out below and tune in at 6:29pm tomorrow to hear one of the greatest rock songs ever.
