I’m willing to lose my Man Card over this admission, but I played trumpet from grade school through high school with the hopes of someday playing in a band like Chicago. I still love watching good marching bands at the high school and college levels.
In my years of high school football broadcasting, I’ve enjoyed the halftime shows at Washington, Dunlap, Limestone, Pekin, Morton, IVC, etc – these bands are really good. These band programs take it seriously and compete at the state level. We counted around 200 students last Friday performing on the field in once way or another during the Panthers halftime show, which was tremendous.
Since 95.5, GLO, is the home for Red Zone football every Friday night, thought you might enjoy seeing the Oklahoma band from this past weekend perform their “Rock Around The World,” halftime show. They give iconic classic rock songs the major marching band treatment.
OU’s band starts with The Beatles “Magical Mystery Tour,” then jump around from Chicago to Kansas To “Panama” to Europe to Foreigner to Queen. Enjoy…or don’t.
