Week 8 of the high school football season means it’s crunch time for teams fighting for a berth in the IHSA football playoffs, starting in two weeks.  This week, we’ll be watching four of the top five Mid Illini Conference teams battle it out for possible playoff-clinching wins, while keeping their sights on unbeaten, first-place Washington (7-0, 5-0).

Dunlap sits in second place by itself in conference play, and the Eagles are probably in the playoffs already after earning it’s fifth victory of the season in thrilling fashion last Friday. Tom Meredith called the live conclusion of the Eagles’ game with Metamora on 95.5, GLO. Dunlap (5-2, 4-1) won in overtime, 31-30, coming from behind in the second half to defeat Metamora for the first time ever in Mid Illini play with an extra point blocked by Adam Schuck, ending a 15-game losing streak to the Redbirds.

Dunlap plays at Limestone (4-3, 3-2) in our main Red Zone game of the week, with former Peoria Pirates head coach and current Edmonton Eskimos scout Bruce Cowdrey and I calling the action from Bartonville.  Limestone’s record is deceiving.  Two of the Rockets’ losses have come at the hands of teams that are unbeaten and 7-0, Taylorville and Washington, while also losing to perennial power Metamora.  Limestone is solid on defense and has veterans at the skill positions on offense. Listen to the pregame show, featuring my interviews with both head coaches, Brett Cazalet and Darin Driscoll, beginning at 7 p.m.

Tom will do some play by play (he’s called the finish of two overtimes games live this season already) and score updates between Pekin (4-3, 3-2) and Metamora (5-2, 3-2) from Malone Field.  Jason Glick produces the big show and tracks down the scores of some 20 other high school games Friday night.  You can also hear the broadcast online at this website and with the free smart phone app, RDIO, anywhere in the world.
